1080p HDTV Buying Tips from a Tech Nut |

I have been looking for a LCD HDTV screen for my bedroom and turned to a buddy who is a complete electronics nut for some advice. It has been a while since I have gone TV shopping and like all technologies what is out there now is different from what stocked online store shelves a year ago. I figured there has to be some people out there with similar questions as me so I relayed some of the answers he gave in this post. I have determined a 32 inch screen will be perfect for my room, as much as I’d love a 42 inch, price is a factor. Figuring my seating position from bed to screen is about 7 feet, I think it will be perfect. The first question I had was LCD HDTV or Plasma HDTV.
Forgetting about price my friend said an LCD HDTV is lighter and more durable. Basically, there are less things that can go wrong. Since Plasma uses gas tubing if something internal breaks it is very pricey to fix. On the flip side, a Plasma has brighter resolution making it perfect for rooms that have windows nearby or a good amount of light coming in. 1080p HDTV is obviously the best resolution but many digital programming only broadcast in 720p so he said the difference is only apparent with video games and HD movies. Being that video games are a large reason for the purchase a 1080p HDTV would be nice. He finished with pretty much all the TV tech out right now is solid and it comes down to going with a trusted brand and how much you want to spend.
