Have you ever wondered why certain colors seen in nature do not translate onto a LCD HDTV screen? Even with a 1080p HDTV there are some colors visible to the naked eye that escape us. The reason for this is that TVs are based off RGB or the primary colors red, blue and green. We can get thousands of colors when combining these three colors but there are certain hues lost in translation. Sharp has been working on a revolutionary 1080p HDTV screen that adds two more primary colors to the mix: yellow and cyan. Cyan is a light, ocean color blue.
Something so simple will actually allow their soon to be released LCD HDTV screens to project 99 percent of the colors we can see. For those interested in the clarity of this screen, visit the International Symposium of the Society of Information Display in California. The 60.5” screen is on display there and will pop up in other commercial locations before going public. According to crunchgear.com, the 60.5 inch screen has a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution with 2,000:1 contrast ration.
