Initial D - Box Set
From the 12th grade through the beginning of freshman year of college my life outside of school and work revolved around drifting. For those who don’t know what drifting is check out the amazing LCD HDTV video below. This sport has its roots in the winding hills of Japan. It was originally a racing technique employed around turns to make it harder for the competition to pass. Over the many decades it has upgraded to full out competition like you see in the LCD HDTV video below. This is a full contact sport where crashing is just part of practicing. I used to have a 92’ Nissan 240sx better known as an S13.
In Japan, this rear wheeled drive car comes with a SR20 turbo charged motor but in America it is naturally aspirated. The reason you see so many 240s in drift circuits is because they are cheap to fix, rear wheel drive, have solid chassis and a transmission that can take serious abuse since it was designed for a turbo vehicle. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to drift. It sells people the first time they get in a car, crack the e-brake, drop the clutch and break the back end loose in tire screeching fashion.
Obviously getting good at this sport isn’t easy. It takes a connection with the vehicle. When I watch the level of D1 drifters or those who push it to the limit on mountain roads where there is no room for error it blows my mind. Being out of the sport for a while now, it still grabs my attention anytime it is featured on my LCD HDTV and home theater components or when local events come into town.
When I was browsing the online store shelves of Shopp Rite Mall at http://www.shoppritemall.com/, I took a second to check out their eclectic collection of DVDs for sale. You should have seen the surprised look on my face when the first page of movies included Initial D –Box Set. This Japanese series is a staple to any fan of drifting. I used to have a couple of the shows but not the entire nine discs from the first season included in this box set. It sounds great on home theater components during drift scenes, looks great on a LCD HDTV and is really addictive. This is a classic show turned movie about life in Japan as a young drifter. Attached below is a LCD HDTV clip of one of the episodes to give you a better idea about what I am talking about. I almost want to buy myself an early Christmas gift and pick this box set up from Shopp Rite Mall.
